How Hard Could It Be?

People always ask me how I got started. What made me want to do this?

Idk. It was probably boredom, my need for constantly changing hobbies, my daughter’s expensive-ass bath bomb addiction...or a mixture of all of the above.

How hard could it be, right?

HA.

It was hard.

Turns out, a little more goes into making a bath bomb than just throwing some baking soda and citric acid into a bowl.

AND I WAS COMMITTED.

I bought all the things. Tried all the recipes. Cranked out so many failed batches.

And then it happened.

I figured it out.

I was a bath-bomb-making machineeee...and everyone was getting bath bombs. Whether they wanted them or not.

ENTER THE FAIRE ERA.

I had all the bath bombs, and naturally, I wanted everyone else to have them too. So I started selling on Faire as Blue Suede Bath Co.

Perfect name, right?

I mean...bath company. Tupelo area. Elvis.

See where I’m going?

Faire was doing reasonably well. So well, actually, that I started having trouble keeping up between real-world demands—hello, hospital work and sleep-deprived single-mom life.

Before I knew it, my products were in shops all across the country.

And then it hit me.

Are people in California or New York making the connection between Tupelo, Mississippi...Elvis...and bath bombs?

Probably not.

And let’s be honest: Blue Suede Bath Co. is a whole-ass mouthful. It’s so many words. And ugh...it was starting to feel cringy.

I wanted something more.

Something me.

Something that didn’t sound clean-label, apothecary, beige-and-botanical, or get lost in a sea of every other bath company names.

And then it hit me.

DIRTY LITTLE SUDS.

It’s memorable. It’s a little controversial. It makes you look twice.

It’s me.

And weirdly enough, once the name changed, everything else started making sense too.

The products could have personality. The names could be a little inappropriate. The packaging could be bold. I could stop trying to make the business look like what a bath and body company was supposed to look like and let it become what I actually wanted it to be.

So that's how we got here.

No business plan. No lifelong dream of becoming a soap maker. Just an expensive bath bomb addiction, a hobby that got wildly out of hand, and one question I probably should've thought harder about:

How hard could it be?

Turns out...pretty damn hard.

But here we are.

And I wouldn't have it any other way.
