Look at This Thing I Made
Ah, the product development lab… a place where research and development sometimes looks a little chaotic but always seems to come together in the end.
And every once in a while, I emerge from all the chaos with something that makes me want to grab the nearest person and say, “Look at this thing I made!”
This is one of those things.
I made massage candles.
Do I normally make candles? No.
Did I know what I was getting myself into when I decided to make these? Also no.
Will I continue on my candle-making journey? That’s to be determined.
And let me just say to all you candle makers out there: props to y’all, because choosing a wick was one of the hardest decisions of MY LIFE. Too big. Too small. Burns too hot. Doesn’t burn hot enough. Melt pool. Vessel diameter. Wax type. Wick series. Wick size.
I just wanted to make the damn candle.
And it happened. After much frustration and several choice words..I did it.
So…what exactly is a massage candle?
It’s a candle with the possibility of a happy ending? IDK. You decide.
It’s definitely not a regular candle. It’s made with skin loving ingredients so that when it melts, the warm oil can be used directly on the skin.
Light it, let a pool of oil form, blow it out, test the temperature (common sense is sexy ya'll..please use it) and pour a little onto your partner’s back. Massage it in...whatever happens after that is none of our business.
No partner? You can have a whole spa night to yourself. After all, you deserve to enjoy nice things. Light your candle while you soak in the tub and relax as the scent fills your bathroom (and let me say..they do smell fabulous). When you get out, blow out the candle, check the temperature, and massage the warm oil into your skin.
No partner required. No sharing required. Nobody stealing the covers afterward.
Okay, but why can you put THIS candle on your skin?
Because this isn’t your average candle formula.
The short version? Jojoba oil, sweet almond oil and shea butter are what give the melted candle that silky, massage oil feel, while soy wax gives it enough structure to actually function as a candle. Together, they create a much softer formula than a traditional candle...one that melts into warm oil you can use on your skin.
So basically, candle…but make it lotion-ish.
And because it needs to be said: Please do not grab a random candle off your coffee table and pour it on yourself. That is not what we are advocating here.
And because I absolutely could not decide…
I made them in three scents:
Oakmoss & Amber: warm, earthy and sexy without smelling like somebody dumped a bottle of cologne in your bedroom.
Basil, Sage & Mint: fresh, herbal and clean. Very I have my life together, even if there are three baskets of unfolded laundry sitting in the laundry room.
Sweet Orange Chili Pepper : bright, juicy, sugared citrus and tropical fruit. Think fresh, fruity and ridiculously good...not spicy. Despite the name, nobody is getting chili peppered in the bedroom.
So whether this candle ends up beside your bathtub, on your nightstand, or somewhere we absolutely do not need additional details about, that’s between you and the candle.
We’ll just be over here pouring more candles and minding our business. But if you'd like to see what the hype is about...you can grab one here.
